Tyrion Lannister

“It’s not easy being drunk all the time. Everyone would do it if it were easy”

– Tyrion Lannister

One of the most popular characters on Game of Thrones and with good reason. He’s clever, he’s got style. He’s got a way with the ladies and he knows how to have a good time. But he’s also faced obstacles in his life. His family hates him. Everyone else ridicules him. But he takes it in stride because he knows what he is and yet he also knows that they underestimate him.

“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.” And now you can wear this Tyrion Lannister costume and let the party know what you are. The coolest player in the room.

A promo photo of Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. If you notice the recurring theme in the Tyrion Lannister costume is the different doublets he wears.

“Promo shot”

Yet another one of Tyrion’s doublets. Note the rings on his fingers as well as the medieval “ring belt” (not to be confused with the finger jewelry.

Season 4 Episode 06
“The Laws of Gods and Men”

At his trial for the murder of King Joffrey. Tyrion faces the court and tells him what he really thought of his nephew after being betrayed by everyone close to him.

Tyrion Lannister Costume

With Tyrion Lannister being one of the most popular characters on the show you’d think it would be easy but it wasn’t. This was actually a tough one. We searched Halloween spots, we combed the smaller cosplay costume makers but nothing made specifically like Tyrion’s outfit. The closest we found was from a guy on eBay who had a one going for $350, which isn’t outrageous compared to some cosplay sellers, but it’s very rare that they’re available, so we had to improvise.

Season 2 Episode 03
“What is Dead May Never Die”

Tyrion tests the loyalty of the small council by telling them each a different story involving the marrying off of Cersei‘s daughter Marcella. In the end it’s clear who the rat is by which version of the story gets back to him.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: The Doublet

This was our main obstacle. If you’ve watched the show, you’ll know Tyrion is what Ser Bronn would call “fancy folk.” If you looked at the provided photos you’ll see that he wears a lot of fancy medieval style doublets. He wore a red leather one in season 1 with yellow patterns on the collar area. But the rest of the seasons he interchanges some. So we found something that wasn’t meant for a Tyrion Lannister costume, but could easily pass.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: “Medieval Coat”

A little different from the doublets that Tyrion usually wears, but this is a good substitute if you want to look legit, but don’t need it to be 100% replicated. With some of the other items we’ll add, most people won’t know the difference anyway.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: “Hand Of The King” Replica Pin

In season 2, Tyrion spent time as Hand of the King. After Ned Stark‘s fate it’s surprising anyone would even want the job. But he was good at it and it definitely made for some comical as well as heroic moments from the Imp. Make sure you add this piece to your Tyrion Lannister costume as it was a shining moment for our boy.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: Boots & Belts

We pointed out the ring belt. It’s a regular component in all of our Game of Thrones costumes and this is no different. We gave you our two favorite options with proven quality. The company that makes the boots are regular makers of medieval, renaissance, pirate and other cosplay footwear. But they make different styles so pay attention to any size notes to ensure a comfortable fit. We went through what they had and narrowed it down to this one for Tyrion. You may prefer a different style.

Game of Thrones: Royal Belt

This is the officially licensed replica belt of Game of Thrones. It’s made of top quality leather and can be used for a variety of outfits (as we’ve used it across the site). Good for collectors who want the real deal.

Medieval Ring Belt

This is generic medieval ring belt that can be used if you don’t want to go as far as picking up the official belt. Notable is it’s length which is good for authenticity, but makes it comfortable for all sizes as well.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: Boots

We chose a leather boot in contrast with the boots we selected for some of our other characters due to location. Tyrion is a bit fancier than some of his hard fighting counterparts who wear a softer more travelled boot.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: Accessories

Stainless Steel Lion Ring

As mentioned, Tyrion wears rings. Check out this stainless steel ring for your costume. It won’t rust or fade and has a great price tag.

Wig

It may not have been made with Tyrion in mind, but it’s cheap and fits the part. If you’ve got short hair and need a wig for your costume, here it is.

Scar Makeup

If you haven’t seen these 3D FX transfers by Tinsley, you really need to check them out. They look realistic and are super easy to apply.

Game of Thrones Replica: Catspaw Assassin Dagger

So by looking at the picture you can probably tell that this is not a toy, if you can’t… this is not a toy! But since we also like to feature Game of Thrones replicas here, we wanted to post this nice little item.

If you remember in season 1, the Catspaw Assassin (as he was credited in the show) attempts to kill a bedridden Bran Stark who was healing from being pushed out of the tower window. He did not succeed and after some detective work Catelyn comes to find out from Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish that it was Tyrion Lannister’s dagger. Or so he claimed. Baelish explains that he lost it in a bet to Tyrion, after the Imp bet against in brother in a tournament.

In the books, a captive Jaime Lannister later points out the flaw in that story while being interrogated by Lady Catelyn. Tyrion couldn’t have won it in that bet because he never actually bet against his brother. They don’t go into this on the show, perhaps to keep it mysterious, but it’s still a cool little prop to have if you’re a collector.

Tyrion Lannister Costume: Beverage Accessories

“Everything’s better with some wine in the belly.”

– Tyrion Lannister

What you choose as a beverage is up to you, but Tyrion does like his drinks. So even if you’ve only got a club soda in there, why not cap off this Tyrion Lannister costume the way he would?
